Mindfulness Group FAQ
-
What is psychoeducation and bibliotherapy?
Psychoeducation is the process of helping individuals learn about mental health.
By combining psychological theory with practical strategies, psychoeducation helps individuals develop insight, cope with challenges, and make informed decisions regarding their well-being.
Bibliotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses reading materials to support mental health and emotional well-being. Bibliotherapy facilitates psychoeducation through carefully selected books, articles, and other written works that enhance understanding and self-reflection.
GIFTS’ Introduction to Mindfulness group will use both psychoeducation and bibliotherapy through weekly assigned readings and group activities. These readings and activities will help you develop a deeper understanding of the principles and benefits of mindfulness while also equipping you with practical skills to incorporate mindfulness into your day to day life.
-
What are the assigned readings?
GIFTS’ Introduction to Mindfulness group will be incorporating assigned readings from Jon Kabat-Zinn’s book, Wherever You Go, There You Are. The book will be provided on loan at the first group meeting. An additional fee may be incurred if the book is lost or damaged.
If you would prefer to purchase your own copy of the book, we encourage participants to select the most recent publication of the book (the 30th edition). The following link takes your to the edition that the assigned readings and page numbers will be based on.
